Simple, fair fees
Prefire only makes money when a deposit goes through, so our fees are small and the cost is shared. Backers pay a small service fee when they put down a deposit, and creators pay a fee from their payout. Neither side carries the whole cost.
How the fee works
The fee is a percentage of the item price plus shipping, and the percentage gets smaller as the item price gets bigger. Backers also pay a flat $0.30 on each item. The lowest price a creator can set is $10.00.

The range is set by the item price. Each range includes its starting amount and stops just before the next one. The percentage is taken on the item price plus shipping, and the backer's flat $0.30 is added on top.
For backers
The service fee is added at checkout, so you'll always see your exact total, including shipping, before you pay. Your payment is held until the creator ships, and it's refunded if they don't. The service fee covers processing and protecting your payment, so it's non-refundable, but your item price and shipping always come back if the item doesn't ship. Buying more than one? Extra items ship for less, because the creator sends them in one package.
For creators
Prefire costs $5 per month to keep your page live. There's no cost to list items, and you only pay the fee above when a backer puts down a deposit. You're paid after you ship and your tracking is verified, so you cover production up front. Backers pay shipping on top of the item price, and it comes to you less the fee percentage above. You set the price for the first item and a lower price for each additional item, and you ship combined items together in one package. If real postage turns out higher than what they paid, you cover the difference.
